Wildcards also work, with * meaning zero or more characters and ? meaning exactly one character.

  • *achtig finds all words ending in ‘-achtig’
  • b?x will find not just box but also all word groups containing box (out of the box and outside the box)

With double quotes ("") you can find an exact phrase to reduce the result set:

  • aan de dag finds 130 results; "aan de dag" finds 3 results

Find words or word groups by entering keywords

For example:

  • entering vis giftig (fish venomous) will find, among others, ‘kogelvis’ (pufferfish), ‘schorpioenvis’ (scorpionfish) and ‘steenvis’ (stonefish)
  • entering landbouwwerktuig (agricultural implement) will find, among others, ‘schoffel’ (hoe), ‘tractor’ and ‘vork’ (fork)
  • entering loeit (moos) will find, among others, ‘gnoe’ (wildebeest), ‘koe’ (cow) and ‘okapi’
  • entering dier maakt geluid (animal makes sound) will find, among others, ‘insect, ‘kat’ (cat) and ‘veelvraat’ (wolverine)

You can also find an exact phrase using double quotes (" "). Examples:

  • entering "is een lijster" (is a thrush) will find all species of thrush in the ANW
